Forest are Home - Campaign Launch Video
Forests are wild, beautiful, diverse, alive, and home to 300 million people. But forests are also in trouble.
We all have a role to play. When forest owners choose certification, manufacturers choose certified wood, and customers choose certified furniture, we all play a role in protecting forests.
Voice of smallholders for smallholders - PEFC is here
Forests are wild, beautiful, diverse, alive, and home to 300 million people. But forests are also in trouble.

Your safe choices can save forests
Your safe choices can save forests (and threatened and vulnerable animal and plant species too!)
How? Natural latex has been proven, time and time again, to be extremely hygienic, safe, flexible, and reliable, which is why the vast majority of the world’s condoms are made from it. That latex can only come from one place - the rubber tree - and it’s tirelessly harvested by millions of smallholder rubber farmers, primarily in Southeast Asia. PEFC works with these smallholders every day to help them to produce rubber responsibly, from forests that are sustainably managed. PEFC certification unlocks market access for smallholder rubber whilst protecting adjacent forests and the vulnerable animal and plant species that call them home. That’s how your safe choice can save forests!
Smooth landings save forests
Aircraft tires take a beating, which is why manufacturers choose to make them out of natural rubber. That rubber is tirelessly cultivated and harvested by millions of smallholders across Southeast Asia, and PEFC is here to help those smallholders to produce it sustainably.
PEFC certification unlocks market access for rubber smallholders and the sustainably sourced rubber that they produce. It also helps to protect surrounding forests and the cradle of biodiversity that call them home. That’s how a smooth landing saves forests.
Early successes in rubber certification in Vietnam
It’s going to take meaningful action from key stakeholders in the natural rubber supply chain to meet soaring global demand sustainably. At PEFC, we are proud to partner with sustainable rubber first-movers VRG and DONARUCO, who are proving that rubber can be harvested sustainably, whilst protecting forests and securing smallholder livelihoods at the same time. They gave us some insights into the early lessons and successes of PEFC certification in Vietnam, and how certification had helped to solve supply chain issues.
Morning runs save forests - PEFC is Here
How? The soles in your running shoes are probably made from natural rubber, which is produced by smallholders across Southeast Asia. Natural rubber is a cleaner alternative to synthetic rubbers or plastic-based materials that derive from the costly extraction of fossil fuels. When that natural rubber is PEFC-certified, it’s also sourced and produced sustainably too.
Certification means that surrounding forests, and the cradle of biodiversity that call them home, are protected and left to stand tall for many years to come.

Turning Rubberwood into Enduring Beauty
In the next installment of our ‘Meeting our certified companies’ series we spoke to Jens Van Rompaey, General Manager of the Wood Division at Unilin, a leading global producer of home living solutions, such as flooring, insulation, and panels.
Unilin sources certified rubberwood from rubber smallholders in Southeast Asia to manufacture high quality wooden flooring for homes. Jens told us how PEFC certification has benefitted his company and expanded the possibilities for rubberwood.
